Private Sessions

Private Mentoring

One-to-one therapeutic mentoring at The Farm for ages 8 to adult. Weekday evenings and weekends.

What We Offer

Our private mentoring sessions bring the same regulation-first, relationship-based approach that runs through everything at Wild Minds — delivered one-to-one at The Farm, outside of school hours.

Sessions are tailored to the individual and may include animal-assisted activities, nature-based therapeutic work, emotional regulation strategies, confidence building, and social skills development.

Whether you are a parent looking for additional support for your child, a young person wanting a safe space to talk, or an adult seeking therapeutic mentoring — we are here to help.

Who Is It For?

Private mentoring is open to anyone aged 8 and above who would benefit from therapeutic, animal-assisted support.

Children & Young People

Support with emotional regulation, confidence, anxiety, social skills, and building resilience — in a calm, outdoor setting with animals.

Teenagers

A safe, non-judgmental space to talk, regulate, and develop coping strategies alongside therapeutic animal-assisted activities.

Adults

Therapeutic mentoring for stress, anxiety, wellbeing, or personal development — connecting with nature and animals as part of the process.

What to Expect

Every session is led by the individual — their pace, their interests, their needs. Here is how a typical block looks.

Sessions 1–2

Getting to Know You

The first sessions are about building a relationship — no pressure, no agenda. We walk the farm, meet the animals, and find out what matters to the individual. There is no expectation to talk about anything difficult until trust is established.

Sessions 3–8

Building and Exploring

As the relationship develops, sessions start to incorporate the therapeutic work — regulation strategies, exploring feelings, building confidence, or working on specific goals. Animal care, practical tasks, and nature-based activities are woven in throughout.

Final Sessions

Review and Next Steps

Towards the end of the block, we review progress together. A brief written summary is available on request for parents, GPs, or referrers. Extension into a further block is always possible if clinically appropriate.

Animal-Assisted Elements

Horses & Ponies

Presence, co-regulation, and non-verbal connection — particularly effective for young people who find verbal communication difficult.

Goats & Sheep

Gentle, curious, and responsive — ideal for building confidence and a sense of calm responsibility through care tasks.

Owls & Ferrets

Novelty and focus — working with less familiar animals can shift attention, reduce anxiety, and open up conversation naturally.

Farm Environment

The outdoor setting, seasonal rhythms, and physical activity all contribute to regulation, grounding, and a sense of purpose.

Common Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Do I need a diagnosis or referral?

No. Private mentoring is self-referral and open to anyone. You do not need a diagnosis, an EHCP, or a professional referral — simply contact us to discuss whether it is a good fit.

What if my child is reluctant or anxious?

That is completely normal and something we see regularly. The first session is always low-key — there is no agenda and no pressure. Most young people settle quickly once they are around the animals and realise it is a genuinely relaxed space.

How many sessions will we need?

We work in 6 or 12-week blocks. Some individuals benefit from a single block; others come back for multiple. We review together at the end of each block and make a decision based on progress and goals.

Can sessions be funded by a local authority or school?

Yes. Some families arrange part or full funding through their LA SEND team, school, or EHCP allocation. We can provide written information to support a funding request. Contact us to discuss.

Is confidentiality maintained?

Yes, within the bounds of our safeguarding obligations. What is discussed in sessions stays private unless there is a concern about the safety of the individual or someone else. We explain this clearly at the start.
